Taqwa – The Ultimate Message of Ramadhaan (By Mufti Ismail Desai Saheb HafizahuAllah)
Question:
Taqwa – The Ultimate Message of Ramadhaan
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Taqwa – The Ultimate Message of Ramadhaan
The month of Ramadhaan, the month of spiritual rejuvenation, the month of spiritual reformation, the great season of Taqwa has dawned upon us. The blessed month of Ramadhaan serves as a unique time for spiritual reformation and the attainment of Taqwa.
Taqwa is a unique spiritual shield which serves as an inner deterrent against sins and spiritual degradation.
The fact that we refrain from permitted and natural activities including lawful food and drink during the month of Ramadhaan proves our natural ability to refrain from sin and impermissible actions which is an unnatural activity.
In order to attain Taqwa and spiritual reform ourselves, we should focus our intentions and mind sets sincerely on attaining Taqwa during the month of Ramadhaan. We learn that “habit” as a natural psychological phenomenon of the human body is developed within 21 days on average and therefore we should prime our hearts and mind sets to cleanse our hearts from sins and bad habits and replace such bad habits with good habits and actions. A defined and focussed intention to adopt Taqwa in our lives will Insha’Allah reap tremendous spiritual progress and rejuvenation of the spiritual heart.
The consistent consciousness of Taqwa coupled with an acute awareness of the dangers of sins will bring about a unique spiritual transformation and reformation of the soul/Nafs. You will experience a deep form of spiritual and inner self reflection that will sustain the soul/Nafs for a multitude of time. You will develop a natural innate aversion for sins and realize that sin by nature is spiritually harmful to the natural human body and soul.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala States in the Noble Qur’an: "Oh you who believe, fasting has been enjoined upon you as it was enjoined upon those before you, so that you may adopt taqwa" (2:183).
May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala allow us to self-reform, reflect and abstain from all forms of heedlessness during this blessed month of Ramadhaan.
Ramadhaan Mubarak to you and your family.
